Jaden Smith’s mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, was “devastated when her son wanted to be legally emancipated at the age of 15, reports People.com. The actress spoke about her experience along with Jaden and daughter Willow on the recent episode of Red Table Talk.
“I remember this day specifically, it’s probably one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life,” said Jada. “You (Jaden) got to a point where you told me straight up, you were like, ‘Mom, I have to leave here to live my life’.”
She recalled, “I remember thinking to myself, as devastated as I was, I was like, ‘He’s right’. The time is now. He’s 15. It’s time for him to leave the house.”
Even though the mother-son duo had this conversation, Jaden decided not to go through the emancipation process and explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, “See, here’s the thing. I’m not going anywhere. The thing that people don’t get is everything at this house is free,” in 2013 when he was 14.
