Indian Magazine faces backlash for featuring Kendall instead of an Indian model
New Delhi: "Trouble is her only friend, and it's back again."
Vogue India has sparked a new social media backlash after featuring American supermodel Kendall Jenner on its 10th anniversary issue.
People took to social media platforms and displayed their displeasure about the magazine's decision to put an American model, instead of an Indian model on the cover.
Some of the reactions are:
"Kendall Jenner is on the 10 yr anniversary cover of Vogue India. The few opps brown women have to shine are given to white women I'm tired," a Twitter user wrote.
Another Twitter user shared, "Why is Kendall Jenner on the cover 4 the 10th anniversary vogue India when there are plenty beautiful Indian women who can do it #vogueindia."
"In a culture where girls are encouraged to use skin-whitening creams and bleach, picking Kendall Jenner for #vogueindia is a step backwards," noted another Twitter user.
Recently, the 21-year-old-supermodel was in news for another controversy after she appeared in a Pepsi commercial that drew such a concerted backlash that it was withdrawn.
The issue also features some Bollywood celebrities including Sushant Singh Rajput and Katrina Kaif.
The piece was shot by iconic Italian photographer Mario Testino in India's pink city, Jaipur.
As of now, no comment has come from Vogue on the controversy.
