Seeking gender neutrality
Recently, on UK’s talk show, The One Show, actress Helen Mirren made headlines after she called out the talk show host for what he may have seen as a rather harmless choice of words. He’d commended the legendary actress for playing “strong, feisty women” on screen. But something about the word “feisty” didn’t sit well with Helen, reports Justjared.
“Well, you know, I have played housekeepers as well, and I’m playing a cleaner in my next film. […] I have to say I don’t like the word ‘feisty.’ I don’t know why. I think it’s because it’s always related to women. They never say ‘feisty man’… Kid, maybe. But I find it slightly insulting, I don’t know why. I want to find another word. See, I was being the boss there, wasn’t I?” she said (via Yahoo).
Helen will be seen next in The Good Liar. She and co-star Ian McKellen got together on October 30 for the movie’s photo call at the Corinthia Hotel in London, England.
