Leonardo Dicaprio signs new film; could be his grittiest yet!

The actor was last seen in 'The Revenant,' which also fetched him his maiden Academy Award.

Mumbai: Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio is all set to produce and star in an adaptation of Stephan Talty's book ‘The Black Hand,’ the true-story about an NYPD cop Jo Petrosino in the early 1900s.

The story follows Petrosino as he goes after a ruthless gang named the Black Hand, who migrated from Italy and were known for kidnapping and extortion.

Petrosino, who also came from Italy, was relentless in his pursuit of these criminals and was eventually killed by them.

Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell of The Gotham Group will produce. DiCaprio's producing partner, Jennifer Davisson, will also produce with Gotham, as well as Nathaniel Posey on behalf of his Appian Way Productions, reported Variety.

Talty’s book ‘A Captain's Duty’ was already turned into a movie, ‘Captain Phillips,’ starring Tom Hanks. DiCaprio is currently in news for his climate change documentary ‘Before the Flood’. He will next play Sam Phillips, a pioneer in the music industry during the 1950s who helped launch the careers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
