Hema Sharma Opens Up on Salman Khan, Films and Fearless Views

Hema Sharma, popularly known as “Viral Bhabhi,” has made a mark with her fearless personality and outspoken nature. From appearing in Hindi films like Dabangg to gaining massive popularity as a contestant on Colors TV’s reality show Bigg Boss 18, Hema has experienced several turning points in her career.

This time, Hema Sharma was the special guest at a Mumbai club event, where she interacted with Managing Director Rajeev Reddy. Rajeev’s Ottoman-inspired look at the event received appreciation, and Hema was quick to suggest that the unique theme could inspire a film. She expressed her interest in being part of such a project if it ever comes to life.

In an exclusive conversation, Hema Sharma talks about her journey in the film industry, working with Salman Khan, handling criticism, women’s safety, and her upcoming projects.

After Dabangg and Bigg Boss 18, do you agree that you have gained more recognition?

I had been working in the industry even before Dabangg, but it is true that the film, along with Salman Khan and later Bigg Boss, gave me a wider identity. I am grateful for the love and recognition, but my journey started much earlier.

Rajeev Reddy’s Ottoman-inspired look received a lot of appreciation. Would you like to work in a film based on this theme?

The Ottoman theme would be wonderful. However, it completely depends on Rajeev sir if he plans such a project. But if he makes a film on this concept, he already knows my name, and I would happily share my number too!

You are known for speaking your mind. Does your honesty sometimes create challenges?

I speak the truth, I speak confidently, and I speak as a woman. Unfortunately, society does not always accept women who express themselves fearlessly. But that is who I am. I don’t believe in pretending or staying silent just to please others. If something is wrong, I will always raise my voice.

Rakhi Sawant recently said that speaking up during protests can affect an artist’s career. What are your views?

It is true that powerful people may sometimes try to silence voices they do not agree with. But fear should never stop anyone from standing up for what is right. Every woman should know how to protect herself, speak against injustice, and fight for her rights. Change begins when people refuse to remain silent.

What message would you like to give regarding women’s safety?

A truly developed nation is one where every woman feels safe — whether she is at home, at work, or travelling. Leaders, society, and every citizen share the responsibility of ensuring the safety of women and children. At the same time, women should have the confidence to speak whenever something feels wrong.

There were reports that Salman Khan advised you to enter politics. Is that true?

Yes, before Bigg Boss, I was confused about my future. Salman sir advised me to focus on my work first and consider politics after a few years. People often tell me that I communicate well because I speak honestly, and perhaps that is why they feel I could do well in public life.

Would you like to work with Salman Khan again?

As of now, I have not received any offer from him, but I have immense respect for Salman sir. People often focus on criticism but forget the good work he does. Whether it is charity or helping people in need, he has always been generous. Age is a natural part of life and should never take away from a person’s contributions.

Rajeev ji, you have also worked with Salman Khan. How would you describe him?

Salman is a fabulous actor, a wonderful friend, and a true gentleman. Age is only one part of life. What truly matters is discipline, passion, and the courage to keep moving forward. That is what makes legends continue to inspire.

What message would you like to give to students raising their voices for justice?

Students should never hesitate to stand up for what is right. If they genuinely believe in their cause, they should express themselves peacefully and confidently. They should trust that justice can prevail through educational institutions and the government. Young people should never lose faith in their voices.

Tell us about your upcoming projects.

I have completed a short film that will be released soon. I am also working on a female-centric film titled Mathri (named after the popular snack), where I play a strong role. I am happy that meaningful projects are coming my way, and I hope audiences appreciate this new phase of my career. An Ottoman-themed project may also be on the cards, she adds with a smile.

Would you like to do a biopic on an inspiring woman someday?

Not at the moment. Right now, I am focused on building a life and career that one day may itself become worthy of a biopic. That is the vision I want to work towards.
