Sholay Actors Remuneration: Check Who Got Highest Salary

As Sholay, India's 'OG' blockbuster movie nears celebrating its 50th anniversary on August 15, Bollywood and movie-lovers are revisiting the fond memories attached with the iconic film.
While some are sharing pictures of their well-preserved ticket, other are sharing more personal stories across social media platforms.
Since Sholay's release 'Bollywood' has evolved into a multi-million dollar business riding on the former's success, with Amir Khan's Dangal reportedly pocketing more than Rs 2,000 crore.
However, a report emerged giving an insight into the modest paychecks received by Sholay's legendary cast. To the surprise of many, Amitabh Bachchan was not even the second highest paid actor. Read on to know more:
At the top of the chart was Dharmendra, who earned Rs 1.5 lakh for portraying Veeru, making him the highest-paid actor in the film.
Following him closely is Sanjeev Kumar, as the vengeful Thakur Baldev Singh, with a remuneration of Rs 1.25 lakh. While, Amitabh Bachchan, who played Jai, received Rs 1 lakh, a substantial sum (at the time) but still lower than his co-stars. On the other hand, Amjad Khan, who played the popular Gabbar Singh, bagged Rs 50,000.
The women of Sholay also earned notably less, with Hema Malini taking home Rs 75,000 for her role as Basanti, whereas Jaya Bachchan received just Rs 35,000, making her the least-paid among the main cast.
Some reports also revealed the salaries of supporting cast. Actors in minor roles like Mac Mohan (Sambha), Viju Khote (Kalia) and A.K. Hangal (Imam Saab) were paid Rs 12,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively.
