Dear Uma talks about solutions, not just issues: Actor-producer Sumaya Reddy

Dear Uma, to be released in theatres on April 18th, features Sumaya Reddy as the female lead. Starring Prithvi Amber as the male lead, the message-laden conscious entertainer has its songs set to tune by Radhan.

Speaking about the film's highlights, Sumaya, who comes from a modelling background, stated that cinema has always been her passion from childhood. A haunting, recurring dream during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 became the basis for Dear Uma, Sumaya says.

The film's Trailer suggests that the theme of taking on unethical elements in the field of medicine is integral to Dear Uma. Is the film taking a harsh stance against corporate hospitals? "We are not criticizing the medical field per se, but we are shedding light on the workings of some corporate hospitals. The story explores what can go wrong when the middlemen between doctors and patients are neither competent nor ethical," Sumaya ponders. Besides talking about what ails the field, Dear Uma also proposes doable solutions.

Dear Uma is produced by Sumaya Reddy herself. The film's technical output is superior. "We roped in talents like cinematographer Raj Thota and composer Radhan and also worked with some established artists. It is but natural that the budget went up," she says.
