‘Article 370’ Wins Best Film At 72nd National Awards
Mammootty, Kartik Aaryan share best actor award, Yami best actress
New Delhi: Bollywood movie Article 370, based on events surrounding the 2019 abrogation of the constitutional provision, was named best feature film at the 72nd National Film Awards announced on Saturday. Yami Gautam Dhar won the best actress award for her lead performance in the film.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared the best actor award for their performances in the Malayalam film Bramayugam and the Hindi film Chandu Champion, respectively.
Rajkumar Periasamy was named best director for the Tamil film Amaran, while actor Randeep Hooda won the best debut director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
Sanjay Mishra won the best supporting actor award for Bhakshak. Ropashree Varkady, for Mithya, and Sachana Namidass, for Maharaja, shared the best supporting actress award.
Srikanth was adjudged the best Hindi film, while Committee Kurrollu and Dhanush’s Raayan were named the best Telugu and Tamil films, respectively. Captain Miller won the award for best film promoting national and social values, while the Telugu movie Chinna Katha Kaadu was named the best children’s film.
Bhangaar won the best non-feature film award and Ram-Nami was selected as the best documentary.
In the music categories, Abhay Jodhpurkar won the best male playback singer award for “Navasachi Gauri Mazi” from Gharat Ganpati. Vaikom Vijayalakshmi was named best female playback singer for “Angu Vaana Konilu” from ARM.
Vijay Ganguly won the best choreography award for the song “Aaj Ki Raat” from Stree 2, while Manas Choudhury received the best sound design award for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
Pushpa: The Rule Part-02 won the award for best original screenplay, while Swargandharva Sudhir Phadke was honoured for best adapted screenplay. The Telugu film Lucky Baskhar won the award for best dialogue.
“Pushpa: The Rule Part-02, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Stree 2 also bagged major honours, reflecting the diversity and excellence of Indian cinema,” the information and broadcasting ministry said.
The awards were announced by feature film jury chairperson Jayaraj, non-feature film jury chairperson Aseem Sinha and best writing on cinema jury chairperson A. Chandrashekhar. Joint Secretary (Films) Ajay Nagabhushan M.N. and principal director general of the Press Information Bureau Dhirendra Ojha were also present.
