Young actor Vishwak Sen appeared emotional and bewildered while addressing the media today, apologizing for the political remarks made by veteran actor Prudhvi Raj at the pre-release event of their film.
"I sincerely apologize for the comments made by Prudhvi Raj, even though we had nothing to do with them," said Vishwak, responding to the viral social media storm, where over 20,000 tweets trended under the hashtag #BoycottLaila.
Explaining the situation, he clarified, "The producer and I had stepped out to welcome Chiranjeevi Garu at the entrance when Prudhvi made his speech. If I had been present, I would have stopped him, as this was not a political platform. I have no idea why a senior actor would create such an unnecessary controversy unrelated to our film. I just hope this doesn't affect our film’s release in the coming days."
Vishwak further stated, "If anyone can prove that I was sitting in the auditorium while he made those remarks, I am ready to quit acting."
During the event, veteran Telugu actor Prudhvi Raj made a political misstep by delivering comments that seemed to target the YSR Congress party. Referring to a scene in the film, he remarked:
"There was a time when I saw 150 goats in one place. But by the end of the shoot, there were only 11 goats left."
This statement was perceived as a dig at the YSR Congress, whose seats in the Andhra Pradesh assembly recently dropped from 150 to 11. Enraged by this, YSR Congress supporters took to social media, calling for a boycott of the film.
With Vishwak Sen and producer Sahu Garapati publicly distancing themselves from Prudhvi Raj’s comments and expressing regret, it remains to be seen whether the outrage from YSR Congress supporters will subside. Meanwhile, Prudhvi Raj has remained silent on the controversy.
