Riteish Deshmukh Responds to Criticism Over Historical Accuracy in Raja Shivaji Trailer

The movie is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande.

Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh has donned the hats of actor, director, and producer for his upcoming movie, Raja Shivaji. The film's trailer, unveiled the other day, has received a mixed response from all quarters and landed in controversy over a scene featuring Sanjay Dutt and the iconic Wagh Nakh.

A social media user recently slammed Riteish over supposed historical inaccuracies in the trailer. He wrote, “Did Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj show the ‘Wagh Nakh’ to Afzal Khan? Wagh Nakh came out only after Afzal attacked Maharaj. Why is Ritesh manipulating the glorious history of Maharashtra?” He also added that insulting Shivaji is akin to insulting Maharashtra's history, legacy, and pride.

Riteish responded to the X user by re-tweeting the criticism and writing, “Respected Sir, please watch the film on 1st May... the answer to your question is there in the movie. I hope you enjoy the film with your friends and family. Jai Shivrai.”

The movie is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande. The film features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, and Genelia. The film will be released in theaters in Marathi and Hindi on May 1.
