Pawan Kalyan’s Unfinished Task: Conquering Hindi Audiences?
Pawan Kalyan has been one of the biggest stars of Telugu cinema for decades, delivering blockbusters such as Kushi, Jalsa, Gabbar Singh and Attarintiki Daredi.
Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan, who turns 55 today, has one major challenge left in his film career — conquering the Hindi-speaking audience in a big way. While he enjoys a massive fan following in the Telugu states, his recent films, including Hari Hara Veera Mallu and Ustaad Bhagat Singh, have not significantly expanded his popularity in the Hindi belt.
“Pawan Kalyan is a game for new challenges. He has achieved several firsts in his illustrious career and could now take up another challenge — winning over the Hindi audience,” says a producer.
For many years, Hindi audiences have embraced Telugu stars through dubbed films. Prabhas cracked the market in a big way with the Baahubali franchise, followed by Allu Arjun, whose popularity soared in the Hindi belt after Pushpa: The Rise. Ram Charan and Jr NTR also established a strong presence among Hindi-speaking audiences following the success of RRR.
“Pawan Kalyan could be the next Telugu superstar to make a major impact in North India, especially with They Call Him OG sequel” the producer adds.

“Pawan has become much more recognisable across the country because of his political journey and his fiery speeches. His image as a fearless and outspoken personality could help his films attract curiosity in the Hindi market. His onscreen and off-screen image have almost merged, and that could help him cross regional and language barriers,” points out the producer.
His upcoming film They Call Him OG 2, directed by Sujeeth, could provide an important opportunity. The gangster action drama, set against a Mumbai backdrop, has a strong pan-India setting and set to commence this month..
“OG 2 has enough potential to attract audiences beyond the Telugu states. But ultimately, the content, screenplay and novelty in treatment will determine its success. A superstar can bring the initial audience into theatres, but only an engaging story can sustain them,” the producer concludes.
Pawan Kalyan may have already achieved near-mythical status among Telugu audiences, but making a major breakthrough with Hindi-speaking viewers remains an unfinished task. If OG delivers on its promise, 2027 could finally be the year he makes a serious push into the Hindi market.
