Excerpts on the success of The Roshans
What are your future plans on The Roshans?
Director-Producer Rakesh Roshan hinted there could be a part 2 of ‘The Roshans’. We have shot more than 100 hrs. We wanted to bring only 4 episodes. Many things have not yet been shown. If people appreciate it, then maybe we will make few more episodes from the remaining stock we already have with us.
Rakesh said that they wish to take the docu series to various festivals, as it is a separate genre for OTT. “Through Netflix, we have already reached a massive audience globally, we will try to take it to festivals.”
Your feeling on watching ‘The Roshans’ on OTT
When I watched the entire four episodes, I couldn't believe that my father, myself, my brother Rajesh and Hrithik have contributed so much. The one thought that occurred in my mind is we have contributed a lot to the film industry, of which we are not aware.
How did your father influence you?
I did not want to delve into music. It was not my cup of tea. I always wanted to be an actor. As an actor, I got good films and worked with a lot of good film makers. My films and my work were appreciated but I could hardly take my career forward. I became stagnant. Many times, I felt sad looking at my peers who would move ahead.”
Turning a producer after acting
It did not bear much fruit. I used to go from one producer to another asking for work. One fine day, I decided to turn director/ producer. I never gave up, I was adamant to keep working hard and be successful through my hard work.
It was then God heard me. Since then, there was no looking back. My directorial films through my production house were applauded and thereafter, I started producing as well as directing films. This decision of turning a filmmaker indeed pushed my career and I was happy.
Your relationship with Hrithik, why Hrithik’s film under your captainship do well
We know each other very well. We go hand-in-hand while shooting and do our best. Also, when he is working with me, he can come and ask me – “Papa can I have one more shot” and if I feel there is a need for it, I agree to it. He might not be so open while working with any other director. We both have a deep understanding. My relationship with Hrithik is the same since his birth. However, on the work front, he hears story ideas on his own and takes a call by himself. Our bonding is very strong. He loves and respects me. What else do I need?
Asha Parikh, Javed Akhtar, Shahrukh Khan and others were seen in ‘The Roshans’. Your heroine from the blockbuster ‘Khoon Bhaari Mang’ Rekha was missing. Did you not approach her?
I guess Rekha doesn't come for such shows. She told us much earlier not to mind if she does not come to the show.
