Readers might remember we had pointed out in one of our recent stories how filmmaker Anurag Basu, who’s made films such as Life… In a Metro, Barfi and Jagga Jasoos, is known in the industry for never sharing in advance his films’ scripts with his actors. So when Abhishek Bachchan agreed to work in Ludo with Anurag Basu, a director with whom he’s never worked with before, he didn’t really know what he was getting into.

Normally, actors get scripts way in advance, which are vetted by the actor’s management team, who then choose to do the films after multiple narrations and changes.

However, it was different with Basu. Abhishek, who also has upcoming films such as Bob Biswas and The Bigg Bull, had no idea it was an ensemble cast to begin with. “So imagine me walking into the sets of the film on the first day and seeing Pankaj Tripathi there and then Aditya Roy Kapur. In my mind I went, ‘Oh, Adi is there in the film too.’ Then we all got to work. That’s how he makes his films,” adds Abhishek.

The Guru actor further reveals that he and the rest of the case came together only because Anurag Basu met them indicating that he was making a film and wanted to work with them. “I didn’t know what the story was. I didn’t know anything. And that would be what any of my co-stars will tell you about the film too. My biggest fear, as I am sure it is so for other actors too, is that I would not know what to tell when people ask me what my film is about. But I think each one of us agreed because we trust Anurag and his works,” Abhishek explains.
