Having kids is not a sacrifice, says Kajol

Actor talks about everything that makes her world go around, and all that does not.

Kajol is one who says it like it is. Never the one to mince words, be it her personal or professional equations, she opens up in a candid conversation. She gets into the middle of things even as she starts.

“Having kids is not a sacrifice. Let me make it clear, I have borne two children, and it is my responsibility to look after them and give them the best. So, if I was away from work for a couple of years, it is not a sacrifice. It is my choice. My family is my priority, and I love my babies to death. I am a hands on mom, and at the same time, I also love to work as and when some interesting projects come up,” she says in a matter of fact tone.

She continues as she talks about Ajay and her parenting style. “Yes, we made a conscious decision to keep our kids away from the limelight of the industry. We want them to have a normal childhood, away from prying eyes and the pressure of being star kids. However, having said that, my kids are aware of the fact that Ajay is an action hero. But at home, we both are just their parents,” Kajol emphasises.

Ask her the inevitable question if her daughter will choose films, and Kajol has a fabulous comeback. “My daughter is merely 14! Tomorrow, if she decides to pursue films, we will give her the platform, but it must be her choice. And choice comes from freedom to pursue what one likes. Both my kids are too small to make such decisions. They don’t have pressure from either us or outsiders to give an instant answer on their future,” Kajol says politely but firmly.

We ask if we will ever see her and Ajay together in a film. “Why not? I hope we get an opportunity. As a real-life couple, we complement each other. Professionally, we both have our creative niches. So, if a script comes along that can connect the reel us to the real us, then you will see us together,” she states.

Lastly, we ask her about her strong political character in VIP 2. Is she inclined towards politics down South. “I will never join politics, be it North or South. I don’t understand it and what I don’t get, I never indulge in,” she concludes.
