Veere Di Wedding: Kareena, Sonam's film has come under the scanner

According to a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) spokesperson the language heard in the trailer is unacceptable.

While the trailer of the much-awaited Veere Di Wedding may have gathered praises and crossed over 12 million views in just a few days, it has come under the scanner.

Otherwise known to be liberal on several counts, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Prasoon Joshi has a strict no-no policy when it comes to spoken language profanities and abusive words.

The profanities heard in the trailer, including Sonam Kapoor using the Hindi ‘behen’ cuss word, has already been cleaned out on various news and entertainment channels.

Even the current Hollywood blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War had all the mild swearwords cleaned out. Irrespective of the film’s Indian distributor Disney’s argument on the acceptance of the language among Marvel comics fans.

According to a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) spokesperson the language heard in the trailer is unacceptable. “I don’t know which section of India’s 20-something female population talks like this. And for what purpose? I wouldn’t like to say much. But to hear Anil Kapoor’s daughter and Kareena Kapoor Khan talk like this is not very encouraging. They have a huge fan following. Is this the example they want to set?”

However, Swara Bhasker, who plays one of the four protagonists, says the outrage at the dialogues is unjustified. “The film is an honest unabashed real look at the friendship of four urban girls from an upper-middle-class stratum of society.

This is how young people; both, men and women talk to each other. We are just being real and ourselves, that’s it. There is no other agenda or message to it,” says Swara.
