Spunky to the hilt, Sonakshi Sinha has never minced words when it comes to standing up for things she believes in. But quiz her about alleged beau Bunty Walia, and she remains tight-lipped with a firm “No comments”. All set to play the character of a journalist in Noor, who hopes to make a difference to the world she lives in, Sona talks about her role, dealing with constant scrutiny, being a star kid, and more.
In Noor you play an entertainment reporter, who seems least interested in covering the beat. Tell us more about your character?
There are many who enjoy what they do, but Noor is not one of them. She doesn’t want to be an entertainment reporter; she wants to make a change. She wants to report about things she feels are important.
You’ve also sung for a track in the film. How serious are you about your singing career?
It’s something that I really enjoy. It’s too early to call it a career, but yes, I would like it to head in that direction. I’ve wanted to be a singer since I was a child. I am working on my next single.
As an actor, how do you deal with being constantly judged and being under the radar of scrutiny?
At the end of the day, we know this is what we signed up for. It’s a visual medium, and people are going to judge you without even knowing you. You’re making a film, you’re part of the entertainment industry, and everyone has an opinion in today’s day and age. The best way to deal with it is to understand that you cannot please everyone. I’m not here to please everyone.
So, how do you deal with trolls on social media?
I don’t deal with them. I reply to trolls when I’m bored. But it’s best to ignore them.
Many star kids these days have moved out and are living independently. Does the thought of moving out cross your mind?
I love living with my parents, it’s too comfortable . In a way, I might have dependence issues, because I can’t think of living without them. I am so comfortable that the thought hasn’t even crossed my mind. I think just because one is a star kid, doesn’t mean we’re not independent. I’m working, I’m earning my own money, I do pay my own bills… I’m independent.
You’re playing a negative role in Ittefaq. How was it like?
It’s been a great experience because I’m getting to play a role (with negative shades) that I haven’t played before.
You’d been offered the role of Haseena Parkar earlier and Shraddha Kapoor is playing it now. Thoughts on the first poster?
I wouldn’t want to talk about it.
