Huma Qureshi wants a partner like Akshay's Jolly LLB 2 character in real

Ahead of her film Jolly LLB-2, actress Huma Qureshi speaks her mind on real and reel-life issues.

She is an actress who knows her mind and is unafraid to speak it. But right now, Huma Qureshi is all enthused about her upcoming film Jolly LLB-2. Following her debut in Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012, she has spent a few years in Bollywood and says that she is happy to have worked in good films.

“I moved from Delhi to Mumbai just to work in films but did not receive anything on a platter. I feel lucky to have worked with directors like Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bharadwaj and Sriram Raghavan and am really happy to be starring opposite Akshay in Jolly LLB-2,” she says.

On choosing between offbeat and commercial films, Huma says, “I have always been associated with films that have a different story and look forward to great scripts. In this, my reel husband, played by Akshay Kumar, not only cooks food for me but feeds me with his hands. He also massages my feet and puts me to sleep. In real life too, I would like to get a partner who would do all these things for me!” Huma explains that things are changing with respect to women in films and in real life too. “We are undoubtedly living in a male dominated world. However, whatever happens in society is actually reflected on screen,” she says.

Bollywood hasn’t seen many older women work with younger stars, Huma says. “Recently, Kareena broke this trend, when she was paired opposite a younger hero. So this privilege no more vests with older heroes, who get to work with younger heroines.”

On Indian women not being treated well, Huma says, “Women in India are counted as most powerful and deserve huge respect. But the way most of them are treated is not acceptable. It is high time we stop blaming the authorities. We need to change our boys and men from the ground level.”
