Is Raveena Tandon playing the mighty Indira Gandhi in the sequel to KGF? Well, yes and no. The actress does, in fact, play India’s former prime minister, but the filmmakers may not announce the role to be Mrs. G exactly.
Why should they? Has anyone forgotten what Gulzar had to go through to release Aandhi during the Emergency from the Gandhi regime? In case the answer is yes, the film was banned because it very obviously showed Mrs G’s broken marriage caused by her political ambitions.
Speaking on her project, Raveena says, “Yes, I am playing a Prime Minister in the KGF sequel. But my character has nothing to do with Indira Gandhi. I play a steel-willed PM named Ramika Sen. You can draw your own conclusions from that. Ramika is gritty and gutsy, and she walks the talk. I loved her from the minute I was told about her. Plus, there is the added incentive of working with a really dedicated and sincere team. Yash, the male lead in KGF and Prabhas are the two of the most humble superstars I’ve met.” This is not the first time that Raveena will play a female politician with shades of grey. “That’s right. I was the Chief Minister in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Satta 16 years ago. I am now being promoted to the Prime Minister,” she said.
