Shekhar Ravjiani who played the character of Jaideep in the film Neerja has been getting appreciation from all quarters for his performance as Neerja’s love interest.
While recording music for a film at a suburban studio in Mumbai, Shekhar says the response has been “overwhelming”.
“After the screening Javed (Akhtar) Sahab came to me and said ‘your performance and dialogue delivery was so perfect it seemed like this was your film’. Hrithik’s message was also very nice and special,” he said.
“It’s humbling to be accepted like this for a brief role. Almost all of my friends from the industry have sent me congratulatory messages. Th best tweet among the many I got was ‘Your role was brief but impactful, Jaideep’s character stays with us’,” he says.
Talking about the reaction he got from his parents, he says, “I was expecting them to react immediately but I think this film creates such an impact that the reactions come much later. After watching the film you are quiet for an hour, as it sets into you.”
“So my mother called me two hours after watching the movie and said the film was brilliant and my performance was brilliant. My dad didn’t say anything straight to my face, he is that kind of a person. But my mum told me that he really liked the film. However, on Facebook he wrote ‘I’m proud of you, my son.’ He told told me that Sonam and Shabana Ji were brilliant in the film and the movie was well-directed. Before that, in my head, I kept thinking whether he would say something about my performance until I saw that post,” he said.
Shekhar also received a special feedback from his 13-year-old daughter. He says, “She said you were funny in the film but acted good. She loved the film and now is a big Sonam fan.”
