Virushka reception: Sabayasachi accused of claiming credit, apologises

After hosting a reception in Mumbai on 26th, Virushka have now left to South Africa for Virat's cricket match.

Mumbai: Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding was in the news for various reasons. The beauty surrounding both the celebs was widely appreciated and the credit for that goes to Sabyasachi Mukherjee. But does he really deserve all the credit?

Neha Srivastava from Lucknow went on Facebook to counter-argue about Sabyasachi calling Anushka’s Benarasi saree at her Delhi reception his signature style. She wrote:

Designer Rahul Mishra told Hindustan Times, “I think [Sabyasachi] has been majorly misinterpreted because he himself said that he has seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi sari and he doesn’t even claim that the motifs are his.”

Delhi resident Shomini Sen who also donned a similar Benarasi sari at her wedding spoke, “We Bengalis have been wearing red Benarasi saris for generations, and what I wore for my wedding two years ago is also similar to what Anuskha has worn now. This particular pattern has been there for the longest time, and it’s only nice that north Indians are seeing it now, which will make it more popular.”

The designer was again accused of taking credit for Virat’s designer wear at Virushka’s Mumbai reception. Here’s what Sabyasachi’s post said:

According to a report on Hindustan Times, Raghavendra Rathore mentioned in an email, “Ace batsman and Indian Cricket Team Captain, Virat Kohli, was seen donning a classic Raghavendra Rathore bandhgala at his celebrity-studded reception in Mumbai on Tuesday evening. Looking stately in an opulent Navy Blue bandhgala, teamed up with white Jodhpur Breeches, a pink pocket square and leather, brown shoes to complete the attire.”

Sabyasachi then apologized for the mistake in another Instagram post:

For her Mumbai reception, Anushka wanted to wear old world glamour. And we decided to ‘Jazz’ it up in smoky grey. Hand beaten silver thread, textured sequins and cut organza flowers were assembled on an embroidered tulle base to create an ethereal lehenga. Award winning master craftsmen from Lucknow rendered her stunning dupatta which was clinched on the waist with our ‘Bengal tiger’ belt. Anushka’s look was accessorised with a necklace and earrings hand crafted with rose cut diamonds, solitaires and briolettes from the Sabyasachi fine jewelry collection. And BTW @virat.kohli looks absolutely dapper in a @raghavendra.rathore We had made a very similar piece and in the confusion of the great Indian wedding the credits got swapped. Mr. Mukherjee is personally a huge fan of the Rathore label and deeply regrets the error. @anushkasharma @virat.kohli @bridesofsabyasachi For all jewellery related queries, kindly contact sabyasachijewelry@sabyasachi.com #Sabyasachi #TheWorldOfSabyasachi #SabyasachiJewelry #AnushkaSharmaViratKohliReception #AnushkaSharma #ViratKohli #Virushka Styled by @alliaalrufai
