BIFFES: 180 films to be screened
Bengaluru: Nearly 180 films from 50 countries will be screened at the ninth edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES), which would be held between February 2 and 9 in Bengaluru and Mysuru.
Announcing this here on Tuesday, information department principle secretary, M. Lakshminarayan said, “The Inauguration of the Festival will be held at Bengaluru and the valedictory ceremony and award distribution will be at Mysuru."
He said the list of films selected for the competition section will be announced in the first week of January. “As in the previous edition, there will also be an additional International Jury for Kannada Cinema, which will culminate in a special NETPAC (Network for Promotion of Asia and Pacific Cinema) award. A new international critics jury will also be introduced for Indian cinema," he said.
According to him, quite a good number of films in Asian category and rest of the world have the reputation of having figured in other major international film festivals of Berlin, Cannes, Toronto, Goa, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram, will be screened.
"Films made by world renowned filmmakers such as Zoltan Fabri from Hungary, Ken Loach from UK, Asghar Farhadi from Iran, Kim Ki Duk from Korea, Cristian Mungiu from Romania and others are being screened during the event," Lakshminarayan said.
He said this time BIFFES would have special thematic sections, which would include ‘Cult Comedies’ from France and ‘Women Power’, a bouquet of films by women Directors from across the world.
The documentary films section, which was started from the previous edition, will feature the works of American film maker Haskell Wexler, who passed away last year.
