Rajat Kapoor saved Mantra from the blushes, reveals director Nicholas Kharkongor
Mumbai: The upcoming movie, ‘Mantra,’ has been themed on how a small Indian company is being swallowed up by a multinational.
The makers were trying to portray the age old social adage of ‘big fish eats small fish’ with an actual visual representation of the same.
When lead actor Rajat Kapoor, who himself is a well-established director, was briefed out the scene, he tried to persuade the director to abandon the idea, saying, "It will just be a waste of time, there’s no way we can get that visual."
On the other hand the crew was confident about doing this experiment as they did their research by studying online video about the same. But the director’s wise words turned out to be true and after multiple unsuccessful attempts, the makers abandoned the idea.
The film revolves around the forces of globalisation sweeping through a post-liberalisation India, with one man desperately attempting to save his once-iconic snacks brand from being wiped out by a multinational giant. Starring Kalki Koechlin, Rajat, Shiv Pandit and Adil Hussain, the film has been directed by Nicholas Kharkongor.
‘Mantra’ has already won the best feature film award in SAIFF, New York and was an official selection in IFFI and MAMI last year. The film is all set to hit the silver screens on March 17.
