Mumbai: A host of new names have been added to the cast of Kabir Khan’s ’83, which is based on iconic World Cup victory of the Indian Cricket Team in 1983. The movie featuring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev has cast Ammy Virk, Sunny Kaushal, Tahir Bhasin, Hardy Sandhu and Vijay Varma besides Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tamil actor Jiiva.
While Jiiva, who is making his Bollywood debut with ’83, would be seen playing Srikanth, Punjabi singer Ammy Virk has been roped in to play the role of Balvinder Singh Sandhu.
Unlike today, the Indian cricket team never travelled with a coach, but a manager in those days. And, bringing team’s manager P.R. Man Singh on screen would be actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
The film will also see Sunny Kaushal, who was seen playing hockey in Gold, Hyderabad-based Vijay Varma, Punjabi singer and actor Hardy Sandhu and Mardaani actor Tahir Raj Bhasin essaying important characters in the film. “All these people are being trained at the moment. There are more names which will be announced at the earliest when the film is ready to be shot in Mumbai, after which the team will travel to England for the shoot,” says a source.
