Mumbai: Actresses often become targets to trolls who slut-shame, body-shame them and spew hatred on their social media accounts.
However, Sunny Leone has revealed perhaps one of the first instances of a bully not just confining the hatred to cyber space, but taken it to real life.
Talking about one such incident, Sunny told mid-day, "Someone threatened me, telling me he’d come to my house to cause harm. Daniel (Weber, husband) was not in the country, and I was frightened, because I was living alone. I would hear noises outside my house and walk towards the door with a knife in my hand."
The actress also revealed another shocking incident when a man, with substantial number of followers on social media, threatened her and landed at her residence.
"He started banging on my door. That his Twitter followers had also bullied me, made me fear that a mob would turn up and break into my house."
While it is not clear if the incident took place in India or USA where Sunny was earlier residing, it definitely shocked the actress, forcing her to set up CCTV cameras at her house.
She added, "We changed our house later, but this incident still affects me."
Sunny, who is now collaborating with the NGO Akancha Against Harassment on the issue of cyber bullying, said, "Young girls and boys go through depression because they are bullied. Many even end up committing suicide. I don’t know if this will end, but, we can create awareness about it. Thankfully, people have been supportive towards me, and, I am strong, but not everyone can say that. We need to help them."
