Mumbai: Katrina Kaif recently completed an intensive dance number with Aamir Khan, choreographed by Prabhu Dheva for Vijay Krishna Acharya’s 'Thugs Of Hindostan'. Katrina had to change her workout routine thrice as the song involved intensive rehearsals and dance steps.
Celebrity trainer Yasmin Karachiwala who trains Katrina, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora and Ileana D’Cruz among other actresses gave an exclusive sneak peek into her workout regime and diet plan for the song.
Yasmin says, “It was a very hectic song and because of that we really couldn’t do a lot of workout, but we did a lot of pilates. A month before the song started, we were doing functional circuit training in the gym and pilates and once the song started, in between the four to six hours dance rehearsals with Prabhudheva, we started the 20-20-20 workout because we didn’t want to do high-intensive workouts as she was anyway dancing for so many hours to learn the dance steps. The 20-20-20 routine is where I work 20 minutes on her upper body, 20 minutes on her legs and 20 minutes on her core on pilates machines. After the song routine started, it was a different regime — we did classical pilates exercises for reflexors or her back. While she was doing the song, I would focus on what she needed for the workout. The workouts were basically tailored to what her needs were throughout.”
During the shooting of the song, Katrina would come to training at 11 pm in the night. Yasmin says, “She is a very hardworking girl. She left the set at 7 pm (her call time was 8-8.15 am), pack up and come straight to the gym at 10.30-11 pm in the night, and stay till past midnight and then go back to the sets by 8 am the next day and shoot the song. Katrina is at her best fitness level in her life right now.”
While the actress did not have a single cheat day during the shooting of the song, she binged the day after it got over by having French toast at lunch. Yasmin says, “We had brunch because she starts rehearsing for the next song and you need to have cheat days. Katrina is always very careful about what she eats but when you see the song, the clothes she’s wearing and her moves you will understand that you have to watch what you are eating because a lot of her body, including her midriff, is shown in the song.”
How does Yasmin work on Katrina’s diet plan? “We work together on a food plan because when you are doing this kind of intense dancing you can’t starve yourself and not eat as you need some energy to flow and your sugar level can fall. I tailor her food according to what her requirement is, like for this song, we had to have carbs in her diet. You can have carbs in the first half of the morning and have gluten-free food.”...
