Salman, Katrina's Tiger Zinda Hai sets cash registers ringing, turns lifeline for YRF

Salman Khan's presence in the movie, as well as lowered cost of production, is raking in the dough for Yash Raj Films.

Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai was made at a production cost of Rs 130 crore. And to promote the movie, the print and advertising budget alone was Rs 20 crore. However, the movie has managed to recover not just the investment costs, but has made a lot more than that.

The film also had multiple profitable deals, thanks to Salman’s presence in the movie. Says a trade source in the know, “The satellite rights of the film, and the digital rights of it, come close to Rs 80 crore, easily.” Add to it the fact that Tiger Zinda Hai had a fabulous deal with the Abu Dhabi government to promote the Emirates. They had a deal, where the entire cost of shooting the film was apparently being handled locally, without the producers, Yash Raj Films, spending any money from their pockets.

“So even though their last four films — Befikre, Qaidi Band, Bank Chor and Meri Pyaari Bindu — didn’t do well at the box office, Tiger Zinda Hai has made them richer on all counts,” smirks our source. Over the weekend, Tiger Zinda Hai has raked in quite the moolah. It made Rs 33.75 crore on Friday, Rs 31.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 42.50 crore on Saturday, totalling to Rs 107.5 crore, despite a slight fall on Saturday from Friday. These figures, however, meant that the film is already running on profits at the moment, and Christmas day figures are yet to be counted.
