Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who passed away on Sunday, was being treated for cancer and had been admitted to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.
“Her hospital bills were huge. Kalpana was close to Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan and was working on a film idea with them. So when she fell sick, Soni took the initiative to help her, with her daughter Alia paying the bills,” informs a source. Incidentally, some other film folks tried to use their PR machinery to spread stories that they were also helping Kalpana although they never really did. “The bill was Rs 2.5 lakhs a week, which included four dialysis sessions. Soni had informed the hospital to notify her about the amounts, which were promptly disbursed by Alia,” adds the source.
Incidentally, Soni and Mahesh Bhatt were both present at Lajmi’s funeral on Sunday afternoon.
