Becomes very boring for an actor like me to repeat roles: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawzuddin Siddiqui, who was recently seen matching up his dance moves with Tiger Shroff in Munna Michael, shares his thoughts on working in a discomfort zone. While the actor is in all praises for his co-actor Nidhhi Agerwal, he gets candid with Deccan Chronicle on his choc-block schedule in 2017 and much more. Excerpts:

How come you chose a dance film like Munna Michael?

I always try to do something new in my each film. I try my best to show different kinds of lives on screen which is why I decided to do Munna Michael. I wanted to do an experiment with this film because this wasn’t my comfort zone. I haven’t danced in my life hence I wanted to do something which gives me fear and discomfort.

How difficult it was for you to match up with Tiger Shroff’s dance moves?

Of course he is a natural dancer in our country. He is such an expert and I tried my best to live up to his style of dance. I had a tough time on the sets. Our choreographer, Ganesh Acharya didn’t give me any rebate considering I am a non dancer. I had to dance according to his instructions.

How was it working with newbie Nidhhi Agerwal?

Being a newcomer, she has a lot of honesty and innocence in her performance. She is very unconventional in her act. She is confident and unpredictable. I feel unpredictability in the performance is a challenge for an actor.

2017 has been flooded with films for you, is it a coincidence or a planned move?

It is just a mere coincidence. I had shot the film at different time but several films are releasing around the same time this year. I don’t decide the release dates, it’s a producer’s call. Before Munna Michael this year, Haramkhor, Raees, Mom and Jagga Jasoos released. Now I am waiting for Babumoshai Bandookbaaz to release. Manto will release next year.

How do you maintain the consistency in doing different roles in each film?

It is always my conscious decision to do something different every time. I thank the film industry that they offer me different kind of scripts each time. I feel lucky to be considered. It becomes very boring for an actor like me to repeat. When I was struggling, I used to observe many people in my life and I try to inculcate their mannerisms into my characters.

Certain kind of commercial aspect has added to your films, why is it so?

Manjhi was made in the budget of 3 crore and it earned 15 crores at the box office, it did commercially well. Raman Raghav was a dark film and I believe back then, the mindset of the people was different to like it but I got several awards worldwide for my performance. Few films give you more than commercial success which is satisfying.
