Kaveri is all set to sing her way into Bollywood

Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra are proud of their daughter Kaveri, who is slated to sing for a Karan Johar production.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur’s only daughter Kaveri, who is now 15, has become a singer. Apparently, Kaveri will be singing for a Karan Johar production. Says her proud father, “Yes, Kaveri is pursuing a career as a singer and songwriter. She’s absolutely brilliant.”

Shekhar has no regrets about his daughter not being interested in filmmaking. “When I play her songs to the most accomplished, they can’t tell she is only 15.”
When asked if Kaveri would make her professional debut sometime soon, Shekhar laughs, “There is no such thing as a debut anymore. If you are a singer you just sing. You can start at 12 if you like, or even earlier. The Internet has changed the way ambitions are approached. Didn’t India’s greatest singer Lata Mangeshkar start at the age of 13? And what formal launch did she get?”

‘Music is the only thing that makes sense to me’
Though I started to sing when I was about six, I didn’t become passionate about it until I started writing and composing my own songs,” says Kaveri, adding, “Writing and singing are the only things I think I will never get bored of. I feel like music is the only thing that makes sense to me. My song writing is largely inspired by the situations and people around me. A lot of my songs talk about very exaggerated versions of personal experiences,” says Kaveri.
“Making music is all I want to do,” adds Kaveri, who takes great inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift.

She adds, “My parents have always encouraged me and supported me, and I don’t think I would have been able to discover my love for music and develop my talent if it wasn’t for them.”

Proud mom
Mom Suchitra Krishnamoorthi is evidently excited and happy about Kaveri’s song. “She brought the song out into the world. She is so dedicated and focused and she is so happy with the responses she is getting. More than anything, she is being asking people how they liked the song… I am overwhelmed with all the love and praise coming her way. I think it’s a great start. She started her training in Hindustani classical music at the age of six. Kaveri penned, composed and sang the song for the first time when she was just 11. However, it’s only now that we got a chance to hear the song,” says Suchitra.
