Baywatch has bigger plans for Priyanka Chopra
The new trailer of Baywatch sees Priyanka Chopra get just one shot, in which she says, “Some people are up to no good.” But there is hope. There is no reason to feel deflated by Priyanka’s meagre presence in the trailer that clearly mentions Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron as the dual propellers in the credits.
Apparently, PeeCee’s rationed presence in the initial trailers is all part of a strategy to reveal her by and by as the arch-villain of the piece. At this point, the role seems to be a low point in the content of Priyanka’s Hollywood stint.
The new trailer of Baywatch has raised many eyebrows with its sleazy content. In a trailer lasting a few minutes, references ranging from anatomical parts to potty jokes have all made an appearance. Even Zac, whose last outings, which includes the smutty Dirty Granddad (banned in India, and panned elsewhere) seems like he needs to make up for lost time. But poop jokes don’t seem to be helping his cause.
Right now, PeeCee’s Hollywood debut looks like a run-of-the-mill sleazy Indian comedy’s distant cousin. One can only hope and pray that the desi girl hasn’t done anything to look compromised.
As far as being welcomed by the West is concerned, Priyanka has proven she has more fans in Hollywood than most of our other imports. But is Baywatch going to get her the popularity that her American television series, the much-loved Quantico has?
Sources close to the big-screen project say it will. “The first two trailers don’t feature much of her,” says a source in the know. “And that’s deliberate. Closer to the May release, Priyanka will be seen in a trailer specially cut to put a spotlight on her role and presence in the film.”
