Labourer falls to death on Deepika and Ranveer starrer Padmavati set

Mukesh Dakia was painting a tomb on the sets, when the unfortunate incident took palce.

Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films are known to have gigantic sets as the scenes demand it. Currently, the filmmaker is again in news for his upcoming film ‘Padmavati’, much awaited period drama which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor.

Recently, an unfortunate mishap took place on the sets which resulted in a labourer’s death. According to reports, on Saturday afternoon, a painter fell to his death on the sets of SLB’s ‘Padmavati’. The painter was painting a tomb on the sets, which is placed in Film City, Mumbai.

“Mukesh Dakia, a resident of Moracha Pada in Aarey Colony, fell from a height of 5 feet on his back. He sustained severe head injuries," Mid-day quoted an official from Aarey police station station.

After the mishap, Dakia was instantly rushed to Kokilaben Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Kiran Kumar Chavan, DCP (Zone 12), was quoted by the same daily, saying, “We have filed an accidental death report (ADR) and are probing the matter — how he fell from that height. If any safety negligence is found, we will deal with it strictly.”

According to reports, the work on the tomb was almost over and only the final colour touch-ups were left to be made. Condoling the loss of life on his set, film’s director and produced Sanjay Leela Bhansali has extended help to the victim’s family.

Shobha Sant, CEO, Bhansali Productions called the mishap an extremely unfortunate and completely unforseen and said that every effort is being made to help the authorities.
