Mahira Khan film Verna's bold disclaimer offends her Pakistani fans

The actress took to her Instagram feed to share the disclaimer of the controversy-ridden film, which releasd on November 01.

Mumbai: Mahira Khan, popular to Indian audiences with her performance in ‘Raees’ alongside Shah Rukh Khan and the popular Pakistani series ‘Humsafar,’ recently featured in the controversial Pakistan film ‘Verna’.

The film, had the actress playing a woman raped by a governor’s son. Courtesy its plot, the film was initially not cleared for release, after the Pak CBFC slammed it.

The film, which opened to mixed reviews, has however been appreciated for its bold content.

The actress, who had come under the scanner recently after being spotted with Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor smoking cigarettes in New York, took to her Instagram to share the film’s innovative disclaimer.

The feed read, “Everything in this film is imaginary. Imaginary because the reality is too bitter to be told or shown. Events shown in this film are jokes compared to what has actually been happening in countries like ours.”

However, though the post had takers, who appreciated its candour and blunt honesty, most people chose to troll and slam the actress for it.

The film, despite all the resistance, released as per schedule on November 17.
