Sangeeta has been presented elegantly: Nargis Fakhri

Nargis Fakhri on her role in Azhar, her Bollywood journey so far and her strongest trait honesty.

The gorgeous Nargis Fakhri, who’s acting as Sangeeta Bijlani in cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin’s biopic, is quite excited about her role. She’s planning to meet the real Sangeeta. “She’s very beautiful still, and I’m keen to know her fitness mantra,” she says. Nargis feels she has played her part well. “Every bit of her has been presented elegantly, gracefully in Azhar; I have done whatever my director has told me to do. I have read all stuff available about her and got to know about their life from people around me.”

Being a foreigner, did she know much about the cricketer? “I had no idea about his life. Being part of this project is very exciting.”

The movie has more traumatic and emotional stuff about Azhar’s personal and professional life, more than what we all knew till now from the media. It’s going to be much more than the match fixing,” she reveals.

She has her share of apprehensions as well. “After reading the script, I found it very cool that this is a story through the real eyes of Azhar. But it’s a little scary too because all the characters are alive and there will definitely be some comparisons.”

So, is Nargis a cricket buff? She laughs, “In fact, I don’t know much about cricket; I do not understand the game. But I love the energy of the game and players.”

All praises for her co-star Emraan Hashmi, she says, “Emraan is very calm and professional. He has immense knowledge about naturopathy. He has a cure — an oil or flower — for any ailment,” she says.

On her adaptive phase in Bollywood, Nargis gives away a secret, “Transforming has literally made me cry, it’s been tough. The Hindi filmdom was a totally new place for me. And having to work with actors so fluent with the language was very difficult. I had to take up a million lessons in Hindi. However, I do not feel boxed. I’m not insecure at all. I can do anything in my country and take up any profession. I will be happy as long as I can afford to pay my bills,” she says smiling. Nargis discloses her strongest trait — that she never lies. “Yes! Being honest is the best. I never liked to lie even in my teens if I have been naughty! I would truthfully confess to my mom; I prefer getting a beating from her rather than lying. Frankness does me good always,” she concludes.
