Salim Khan lashes out at Milkha Singh, defends Salman's role in Olympics

Salman Khan has been announced as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Indian contingent at Rio Olympics this year.

Salman Khan, who is currently shooting ‘Sultan’ has been announced as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Indian contingent at Rio Olympics, this year.
Upset with the announcement, Flying Sikh Milkha Singh voiced his disapproval towards it and said:

“I am of the view that our sportspersons; be those from shooting, athletics, volleyball or other sports, they are the real ambassadors of India who would represent the country in the Olympics. Still, if we had to pick an ambassador, it could have been from the sporting arena. India has produced so many sportspersons who have given their sweat and blood for the country like PT Usha, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Ajit Pal and so many others. One of these could have been made a goodwill ambassador. What was the need to import a person from Bollywood? I want to make it clear that I am not against Salman Khan, but the decision of the IOA is wrong and the Government should intervene in the matter. This is for the first time I am seeing a Bollywood hero being made goodwill ambassador for Olympics. I want to ask has Bollywood ever made any sportsperson an ambassador for any of their mega event?”

Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan took to his Twitter to defend his son by saying “Salman khan may not have competed but is an A level swimmer cyclist and weight lifter.”

Rio Olympics is scheduled to commence on August 5 and end on August 21. The Olympic torch has been lit in southern Greece, kicking off the countdown to Rio 2016 on April 21.

In a solemn and elaborate ceremony worthy of a 'Game of Thrones' pageant, women in ancient-Greek style dresses and men in tunics performed symbolic rituals at the site of Ancient Olympia.

After its sprint through Greece, the torch will travel to Brazil on April 27 to begin a 95-day tour visiting 83 cities, 26 state capitals and 500 towns, reaching an estimated 90 percent of the population.
