I'm a soft target for the media: Sunny Leone

Actress Sunny Leone says that people feed on celebrities' lives that are openly laid on the table.

“India has double standards,” says Sunny Leone, adding, “One night stands happen all over the world.”

This, of course, is in the context of her upcoming film One Night Stand. She says, “It’s about how this woman spoils her perfect home and beautiful life… Whether the one night stand is a wrong decision, you need to watch and decide.”

Sunny is pragmatic as ever and has never thought that her pornstar past can be brushed under the carpet. “It would have been bizarre if I said — or even thought — that I wanted to forget something that I spent so many years being (a pornstar); people will think I am weird. However, with each film I trust that I will grow.”

A soft target

She agrees that she is the media’s favourite target. “Yes, I am a soft target for the media. Not just me, but all other celebrities are also soft targets. People feed on our lives that are openly laid on the table,” she says.

She adds, “A newspaper published the news about me slapping a journalist in Surat…and I could not defend myself. Hence, the best way was to go to Twitter to clarify myself, and they came up with a stupid excuse for not authenticating the story before publishing it. They said that they did not have Daniel, my husband’s number. This is obviously a lie because Daniel is very active and is on everybody’s speed dial.”

She adds that the now-famous Bhupendra Chaubey interview, in fact helped her career. She says, “I had answered everything correctly but it got aired anyway and the exact opposite happened. The kind of support I received from my fans, the industry and the people from Twitter was very positive. In retrospect, I realised that the interview helped me get closer to where I want to be. This confession from within my heart has proved beneficial for me as I got stupendous support from one and all.”

No such thing as a free lunch

About people downloading movies from torrent sites, Sunny says, “In my household there’s no content theft. I buy all my songs, I buy all my movies, I don’t steal them. I know it’s really difficult because they feel when they can watch it online for free, why should they spend money on it? If everybody does that, there won’t be any films made anymore. There will be old movies; old re-runs again and again because there will be no money to make any more movies. It is a vicious cycle. There’s nothing we can do about it unless people feel that they should contribute to the entertainment because they are getting entertained,” she concludes.
