Jwala Gutta biopic on the cards

Badminton player Jwala Gutta says that her biopic will be loud and clear

After P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, the it is now badminton star Jwala Gutta’s turn to have a biopic made on her. The inspiring story of the 2010 Commonwealth Games Gold medallist is at the scripting stage. And if all goes well, the film may go on the floors soon.

When we contacted Jwala, she confirmed that the project is on, and added that she had already given the rights to a Bollywood production house.
“The film chronicles my journey, triumphs and achievements,” shares Jwala, who, however, declined to name the director or producers.

“I am not supposed to reveal anything now. But I shall let you know at the right time,” she said. The bronze medal winner of the 2011 BWF World Championships feels that hers is a story to be told on the silver screen.

“But I don’t want a regular run-of-the-mill and masala biopic which takes away from what I have stood for over the years. I’d be happy if the filmmakers can project aspects like women’s rights, independence and toughness. In fact, I am a bit apprehensive about biopics on sporting personalities in our country after seeing a few films. But my biopic is not going to be the same; it’s completely different,” she revealed.

A couple days ago, Jwala’s fiancée, actor Vishnu Vishal, while addressing a press conference, had mentioned that he would like to make a biopic on Jwala. “He’s an actor and producer, so naturally he is constantly on the lookout for interesting stories to be told on the silver screen. Perhaps in that flow, he expressed interest in producing my biopic,” Jwala said.

“If he found my life story interesting then I take it as a big compliment,” she smiled, adding that Vishnu expressing a wish to make a biopic on her only shows his respect and admiration for her.

The badminton star said that it was her decision to hand over the rights of the biopic to a production house. I did discuss the matter with Vishnu, I am confident he will approve of my decision”, she added.

“Because of COVID-19 things have slowed down a bit, but I have a few
other plans, and hopefully, things will materialise by next year,” she said.
Asked whether she would star in her own biopic, Jwala shot back, “If I had to act, I would have done so long ago.”
