The second Friday of January was not considered to be an auspicious day for a film release, but then, No One Killed Jessica released on this day and the film turned out to be a super hit.
This year Uri: The Surgical Strike that released on the same day was also a box office success. Now, the makers of Pati Patni Aur Woh also plan to release the film on the second Friday of January 2020. For a while the casting for the remake of the 1978 classic had its share of woes till Ananya Pandey finally stepped in to play ‘woh’ to the Kartik Aaryan-Bhumi Pednekar jodi.
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the man who directed the Sushmita Sen-Shah Rukh Khan-Fardeen Khan starrer Dulha Mil Gaya and the Happy Bhaag Jayegi series, wants the film to release on this lucky day.
“Mudassar wants Pati Patni Aur Woh to also release on the second Friday which will be January 10, 2020. Incidentally the second Friday this year in January proved lucky for Uri that has gone on to do great business. So now there is a new superstition that the second week will be lucky. Earlier, January was not considered to be a great month for releases. That was a trend was broken by No One Killed Jessica a few years ago. We can recall that Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani also released in the second week of January, and despite being a Shah Rukh Khan starrer, it flopped. But now people have started loving that date after Uri broke the jinx again,” says a trade source. Pati Patni Aur Woh is bankrolled by T-Series and has wrapped up its first schedule in Mumbai. The shoot now moves to the cities of Uttar Pradesh — Kanpur and Lucknow.
