Kushboo working in Hindi film with Nana

Films and actors are considered Indian' now, and not limited to regional industries, says the actress

Actress-turned-politician Kushboo, who is among the celebrities present at the ongoing 54th IFFI, talks to us about film festivals and her own working and personal life.

Actors & film festival

I think every aspect of cinema making is important in relation to a film festival too. We bring in films from different parts of the globe, and every department involved is important – choreographers, editors, directors, everybody who works on the film until its release.

Acting in Hindi films

I did so well down South that I didn’t feel the need to come back to Mumbai and do Hindi films. Also, I didn’t get good offers. But after 35 years, I’m doing a Hindi film with Nana Patekar now.

Re-route to the South

Probably at that time there was a perception that every successful actor in Bollywood must re-route to the South. But now, every actor from the South wants to work in the North. Also, Hindi film makers now ask, ‘South se koi actor mileage kya?’ Times have changed. The mindset has changed. Films and actors are considered as ‘Indian’. All actors now work under one umbrella.

Active on social media

Well, I am a little more opinionated than most! Not that I give my opinion on everything — I air my views on things which are very close to my heart, like women’s and children’s issues.

Family business

My elder daughter has learned baking, she is a baker, but she has also done an acting course from London and will join films next year. My younger daughter is assisting Mani Ratnam, who she considers the ‘dream director’ to work with. I don’t work in my husband’s films. He takes me for granted…It’s like ‘Ghar ki murgi dal barabar.’

Leisure hours

I have been married for 20 years now. I love being at home, I love cooking and taking care of household affairs. My house has to be spick and span. I have a garden and pets. I have to take care of them as well. I love to keep myself active even at home.
