PIL filed in Bombay HC against Sanjay Dutt's early release tomorrow
Mumbai: With actor Sanjay Dutt set to walk out of Yerwada Jail in Pune on Thursday after serving 42 months under the Arms Act in the 1993 Bombay blast case, social activist Pradip Bhalekar on Wednesday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court against his early release.
Questioning the "special treatment" given to the actor, the PIL, which is likely to be taken up by the court on Thursday, sought the cancellation of the Maharashtra Government's decision to grant him a remission.
The PIL urged the court to order the actor to serve his entire five-year sentence.
The Supreme Court had in May 2013 upheld a TADA Court sentence, but reduced the sentence of six years' rigorous imprisonment to five years, following which Dutt surrendered to serve the remainder of his sentence.
Reportedly, the actor, son of former Congress leader and actor Sunil Dutt and film actress Nargis, who has been out on parole for 90 days in December 2013 and again in August last for 30 days for personal reasons, will be released 103 days ahead of his full prison term.
