Mumbai: After a year full of highs for Vicky Kaushal with five releases last year and a bang start to 2019 with Uri faring well at the box office, the actor is certainly a star shining brightest. However, Vicky begs to differ. And, he also has a reason for doing so.

“I don’t consider myself as a star although I am enjoying all the love. Star is a title that audience gives to you but also takes it back. So, I can’t comment on that… If they are giving me stardom, I am grateful. If they not, I will work harder,” says the 30-year-old actor who started with assisting Anurag Kashyap in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and came to notice as an actor for his performance in Masaan (2015).

His confidence is probably the reflection of the change in Indian cinema where the audience is accepting good content irrespective of the ‘stars’.

The strategy for this new-age actor has been to associate himself with good storytelling. “The audience appreciates good storytelling and that’s it... there is no formula. This is the best phase to be as an actor. I started with Masaan and if I didn’t have an audience to appreciate that, I wouldn’t be here today. So, more than anyone, we need to appreciate the audience for their acceptance,” says Vicky.

The actor also has a huge fan following on social media. Aware of his presence there, he says, it feels good to be loved. “I always feel that a person feels the best version of himself/himself when he or she is loved and that’s what I feel right now. That’s my state of mind right now. I feel blessed to be loved. There is a lot of positivity coming my way and it only motivates me to work harder.”

Vicky will now be seen in Karan Johar’s Takht. However, like most of the ensemble, he too is tight-lipped about the project.
