Offers are pouring in, says Shweta Tripathi

Shweta is hoping to work with Mani Ratnam someday

Shweta Tripathi, whose recent performance in Kone Kesh as an adolescent dancer who loses all her hair received much critical acclaim, is now waiting for the release of Mirzapur Season 2 later this month. The Masaan girl discusses her journey so far, and how she sees the way forward.

Having made her debut in the Tamil film Mehandi Circus, Shweta is open to doing South Cinema. “I am a huge fan of Mani Ratnam. In fact, I grew up watching Anjali, Bombay and Roja. I would love to work with him someday. I want to take up more challenging roles in Tamil cinema. I am reading scripts, offers are pouring in but I am taking it a little slowly,” she says.

Shweta has evolved through characters she played in projects like Laakhon Mein Ek and Mirzapur-1.

“Donning these roles was interesting and I am just happy that things worked out for me. Now I am getting roles that are far more multi-dimensional and interesting,” she shares.

Elaborating on her roles in Mirzapur Season 1 and 2 she says, “The main reason I opted for Mirzapur was that I wanted to be seen as a credible actor rather than merely as a cute heroine. After Haramkhor, in which I played a teenager, I became synonymous with young beautiful looking parts. But a performer has to be able to do all sorts of characters. I consciously made a choice to do stories where I am not playing a soft or merely beautiful part. I instantly connected to the world in the Mirzapur series and the characters.”

Talking about the two seasons, she said the sets had given her some of the best co-actors and memories, adding that she is missing Shriya and Vikrant. “Mirzapur’s writing keeps you on your toes. Golu in Season 2 is nothing like Season 1 and it’s my team who helped me create her with some gusto and precision,” she reveals.

The year 2020 has been filled with releases for Shweta. “Sometimes in the worst of situations, you have something to celebrate. It has been a gloomy year, but thankfully the universe was exceedingly kind to me in that some projects I had worked on earlier got released, which kept my spirits high,” she beams.
