Actress and fashionista Sonam Kapoor has been honoured with the Dubai Star. Helmed by the Emaar Star Project, Sonam is the first Indian actress to receive this honour amongst influencers such as Nancy Ajram, Ahmad Helmy, Rashed Al-Majed, and Chinese Nobel Prize winner Mo Yan, among others.
Sonam is the second Bollywood star after Shah Rukh Khan to be given this honour, which is akin to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, celebrating people from the entertainment and sports fraternities who have stamped their presence in the said fields.
The Dubai Stars earlier tweeted that Khan would also be honoured with a star. They wrote, “Drum roll! Revealing one of the most nominated celebrities for #TheDubaiStars. We’re incredibly excited to award @iamsrk his very own ‘Dubai Star’. Congratulations!”
Meanwhile, Sonam says it is an honour to be given a Dubai Star. “As an artist, you hope your work reaches the widest audience and crosses borders. To be relevant and to be awarded here as well is a humbling and heartening feeling,” says the Khoobsurat actress.
The Dubai Stars is expected to have over 10,000 stars in their sidewalk, which is much more than Hollywood’s Walk of Fame’s current count of 2600 stars.
