Veteran filmmaker Ram Mukherjee, actor Rani Mukerji’s father, breathed his last on Sunday morning. The filmmaker, who was 85, suffered a severe drop in blood pressure after which he was taken to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where he passed away from the sudden ailment.
Though his name has not been associated with Bollywood in recent times, the veteran filmmaker directed quite a few Hindi and Bengali films back in the day with bigwig actors and actresses like Dilip Kumar, Tanuja, Vaijayantimala and Sunil Dutt amongst others.
Indeed it was he who launched his daughter Rani in a Bengali film Biyer Phool in 1996.
Also one of the founders of Filmaya Studios in Mumbai, Mukherjee is a man who will be missed sorely by the film fraternity.
