First film to reach Prasoon Joshi's CBFC banned owing to 'terrorist' content
Mumbai: The arrival of Prasoon Joshi at the CBFC post Pahlaj Nihalani’s sensational sacking had been welcomed with open hands.
However, the CBFC seems to be stuck in the same old rut, with the very first movie to arrive at its doorsteps after the change of hands being banned.
‘Toofan Singh,’ a Punjabi film, was banned by Prasoon’s team, citing glorification of anarchic terrorism, according to a report by DNA.
“Toofan Singh is a terrorist, who goes on a rampage killing corrupt cops and politicians. And they’ve compared him to Bhagat Singh. The film is brutal and anarchic. We couldn’t empathise with its message of brute power, let alone grant it a censor certificate,” the daily quoted a source as saying.
The film, which has already released overseas, has its future in the country in dire straits.
‘Toofan Singh,’ a Baghal Singh directorial, shows the protagonist playing a vigilante, embracing terror tactics to fight corruption.
