Kangana Ranaut to play Amma!

The actress surpassed all the others who were being considered for the role of the beloved actress-turned politician, Jayalalithaa.

Mumbai: Fans of Kangana are in for a treat! Apparently, the filmmakers of Thalaivi, a biopic on the late J. Jayalalithaa have signed on Kangana to play the CM in her biopic. In a happy coincidence, the announcement came just before the actress’ birthday on Saturday.

“Yes, after an extensive search, Kangana has been finalised to play Jayalalithaa’s role. Since the late CM was a towering personality, the film’s producer Vishnu Induri believes that her biopic has great potential to be a pan-India subject and inspire others,” reports a source.

However, the decision was not easy for director Vijay. Several actresses were considered for the part. “The likes of Vidya Balan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonakshi Sinha were spoken about, but eventually Kangana bagged the role,” adds the source.

Apparently, it was writer Vijayendra Prasad who suggested Kangana’s name to the filmmakers. “Vijayendra Prasad is penning the biopic on Jayalalithaa. Since he also penned Kangana-starrer Manikarnika and worked closely with her, the Baahubali writer felt that she would be the right choice to play the part,” reveals the source.
