Juhi Chawla’s carbon neutral initiative

Co-owner of the IPL team, actor Juhi Chawla outlines her plans for becoming a carbon-neutral franchise this season.

Mumbai: The Kolkata Knight Riders will start their IPL 2019 campaign on Sunday, 24th March, as hosts to SunRisers Hyderabad. Known for her innovative ways, like keeping the grounds plastic-free in the last season, Juhi Chawla is now working towards being carbon-neutral this year.

“We are aiming to become a carbon-neutral franchise, with a zero carbon footprint. While the planes and buses that we use may not be carbon-free, our t-shirts can and should be environment friendly. In fact, both shoes and t-shirts can be made with breathable and bio-degradable fabrics,” says Juhi, adding, “While we may not be able to change everything immediately, we are working on how to neutralise it.”

The former actress admits that everything is still in the nascent stage. “I have just initiated it. This idea has been discussed with the CEO of my company, and the details are still being worked out,” she reveals.

So does Juhi boost the morale of her team’s players during ongoing matches? “I am inherently a very shy person. But yes, I do meet and greet them, especially when they win a match. And when I do meet them, I like to acknowledge each and every member’s contribution to the team,” she said.

Having played sports in school and college, Juhi said, “I was a jack of all trades, master of none. I used to play squash during college days. I was also into table tennis, throw ball, and basketball. I was a good sprinter, too.”
