Sexual harassment allegations, protests to blame? Ali Zafar's Pak debut in trouble

Sources from across the border reveal that there were protests against its release.

Ali Zafar’s first Pakistani film and debut production Teefa In Trouble hasn’t had the smoothest of openings in his home country. Sources from across the border reveal that there were protests against its release.

“Though Ali ignored these protests, there’s no denying the fact that the harassment allegations have affected his grandiloquent plans of producing the most expensive Pakistani film. Teefa In Trouble is a family film for Ali. His wife and brother are involved in the production and writing, and he hoped to rectify his image through it. But his troubles haven’t gone away,” says a Pakistani colleague of the actor.

The film is being criticized for its weak script and vapid humour. It seems to be a platform for Ali Zafar to showcase his comic virtuosity rather than a genuine attempt to take Pakistani cinema forward.

Sparing no expense, Ali has shot his film in Poland, but Teefa In Trouble doesn’t signal the end of Ali Zafar’s troubles, even though a large section of the Pakistani film industry believes him to be innocent and wrongfully accused of sexual harassment.
