It’s locked down then. Irrfan Khan and Priyanka Chopra will play the legendary poet-author duo Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gustakhiyan.
There were reports that Irrfan wouldn’t be able to play the role, but a source close to the project confirms, “Irrfan has been on board from the start. He was our first choice and he remains our only choice to play Sahir Ludhianvi.”
Apparently, Priyanka was chosen to play Amrita during the shoot of Bajirao Mastani itself.
“With her smouldering sensuality, outgoing personality and husky voice, Sanjay ji thought that Priyanka is the perfect fit for Amrita Pritam,” adds the source.
Gustakhiyan will be directed by debutante director Jasmeet Reen. The film will chronicle the tumultuous relationship between Sahir and Amrita — an association that lasted for nearly 40 years.
It was rumoured that Bhansali was thinking of signing his ‘Mastani’ Deepika Padukone to play Amrita Pritam initially, but later decided to take Priyanka on board.
