Exclusive: We would love to make a Telugu film, says A Gentleman directors Raj-DK
Tirupati born filmmakers Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.’s penchant to make films with quirky content continues with their forthcoming release A Gentleman. The action comedy is rumoured to be a sequel to their 2014 film Bang Bang, but Raj is quick to clarify, “When the production called us to make a sequel, we said we have an original script. We wanted to make a slick action film laced with comedy that Bollywood was known for in ’1980s. We felt there were hardly any such films being made these days. So the A Gentleman is a contemporary take on the action-comedy genre.”
About the lead cast Siddharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez, he says, “The story is about a young couple. While Sidharth plays a software engineer settled in the US who is looking to settle down, Jacqueline is seen as an NRI girl. The plot unfolds when a hush-hush world back in Mumbai collides with a tranquil life. Since the film is about a gentleman leading a simple life in the US, we felt the title was apt.”
On being asked about how filmmaking in Bollywood has liberated them over the years, Krishna replies, “The experience of filmmaking in Bollywood has helped us greatly. We are not from the industry, but our strength lies in writing new-genre scripts. We always look to infuse a new trend, and that’s when the thought to write interesting scenes comes to us naturally.”
Interestingly, hailing from a Telugu land, the filmmakers are yet to make a Tollywood film. “Our prime focus is currently on Hindi films. We would love to make a Telugu film, but we need to get the right script,” adds Krishna.
