Ranveer Singh, who has just flown back from a lavish holiday in Switzerland, is back to work already and fending off questions about his involvement in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next, Padmavati.
The actor met up with the press at the launch of Ranvir Ching Returns, a commercial short, on Friday afternoon and when he was asked about the status of Padmavati, Ranveer ignored the question at first. When probed further, he replied, “Thank you. It’s a really nice movie (Ranveer Ching Returns) and we have worked very hard.”
On the other hand, Sanjay too is keeping mum when asked questions about his next project. The director, however, hinted at getting back to work on his next movie as soon as he could.
Ever since news of Padmavati has been out, the casting of the movie has remained a mystery for everyone.
Actress Deepika Padukone had earlier refused to comment on casting, saying she was not in the position to confirm it. If sources are to be believed, the hit pair of Ranveer and Deepika was to be cast in Padmavati, in pivotal roles. However, no confirmation about it has come from the Bhansali camp so far.
Deepika, who has wrapped up shooting for her debut Hollywood movie xXx: Return of Xander Cage, however, said that she plans to begin shooting for her next film in September.
“I will begin shooting in the next two months for my next Bollywood film, I can’t say which one,” the actress said during the IIFA awards.
Sanjay, in 2008, had gone to Paris to direct the 1923 opera ballet Padmavati, written by Albert Rousselan for Theatre Du Chatelet. The film is also supposed to be based on the oppressive ruler, Allaudin Khilji’s obsession with Rani Padmavati.
Ranveer and Deepika were being considered for Khilji and Padmavati’s roles respectively.
While Ranveer’s involvement is unsure as of how things stand, Vicky Kaushal too had opted out of the film for unknown reasons. Shahid Kapoor, Fawad Khan and Hrithik Roshan’s names had popped up for Padmavati’s casting too, but there seems to be no truth to them.
